Shingles, Metal, and Rubber roofing
Typically a roofing system is comprised of one of four types of roofing material:
- Asphalt shingles
- Cedar shakes/shingles
- Metal roofing
- Rubber roofing
The type of roofing material that is used on any home or business will typically depend upon any one or all of the following three elements:
a) The style and pitch of the roof.
b) The aesthetic look the owner is looking for.
c) How much money the owner is willing to invest.
Some experts will tell you that the type of roofing material that must be used depends upon whether a building is zoned residential or commercial, but this is not always true. Although typically commercial buildings will use rubber roofing and residential buildings will use asphalt shingles, there are many cases in which commercial buildings have asphalt shingles, and residential homes have rubber roofing. Again, style and pitch of the roof, aesthetics, and the overall cost all play a significant role as to the type of roofing material that is used on a given application.
